Kapena

Kahilu Theatre is excited to present the iconic “Kapena” with Kelly Boy, Kapena, Kalena, and Lilo, streaming live from the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 7pm HST.

Kapena, considered to be one of Hawaii’s premier island bands has more than 20 Island Music CD’s to their credit. Kapena continues to be an institution that embraces what islanders fell in love with when fans first heard the unique sound of their “electrifying” music. In the early 2000’s, Kelly Boy introduced Hawaii to the next generation of Kapena, by adding his three children—Kapena, Kalena and Lilo to the group. This next generation brought a fresh and new Kapena sound. Outside of Kapena, Kelly Boy’s three children have gained success of their own, writing new original music and being nominated and winning multiple Na Hoku Hanohano awards. In October, 2017, Kapena released their first full-length album as a family band. The album titled “Palena Ole” won the group four awards at the 2018 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards including Album Of The Year and Group Of The Year. This new Kapena band offers a diverse new package for the old diehard Kapena fans, as well as for the new generation of Kapena fans. “We are so thankful that we have been in this business for so long, and we have people that just support us, and support our music,” De Lima said. “I’ve had people who’ve come up to me and go, ‘Kapena is the playlist of my life,’ and I’m forever thankful, forever grateful.”

This concert is free to all subscribers, and only available to others as a pay-per-view purchase. The original live broadcast will be available to view 24 hours after the initial airing.

This concert is sponsored by Fred Dosher & Carol Greenwell, Cathi Keene, and Ron Meyer.
