Join Brother Noland as we kick off Season 2 of The Pueo, The Camera & Me, with special guests Renson Madarang and Weldon Kekauoha.
Renson Madarang has recently returned to his island home Pauʻuilo, Hawaii after studying post-graduate and doctoral studies in voice with a focus in vocology at Indiana University. As a vocologist, he sets himself apart as more than just a vocal teacher, but also a therapist in strengthening and maintaining the presentation and projection of the voice through both speaking and singing. Additionally, Rensonʻs expression and passion for Hawaiiʻs culture has been immersed in the teaching and perpetuation of the unique and rare art of Ahuʻula; the making of traditional Hawaiian feather cloaks. It is a privilege for us to share this conversation with a most interesting Renaissance Hawaiian man.
Leading the pack of todayʻs contemporary and traditional Hawaiian vocalists, Weldon Kekauohaʻs enchanting and infectious vocal performances stand alone. His articulate and innovative arrangements of traditional Hawaiian songs and his ability to perform them as they have been recorded demonstrates his attention to true commitment to his musical artistry and itʻs cultural importance. In this episode, we delve into the man behind the performer in this intimate conversation with this entertainer at the forefront of Hawaiiʻs contemporary music scene.
