Join us in our panel discussion, Redeeming Māhū: Deconstructing and Reconstructing Māhū with Hawaiian Mindfulness. This panel discussion will be moderated by Ākea Kahikina, Educator of ‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i and Hana Keaka practitioner. The event is part of Kahiluʻs Sharing Manaʻo Series.
This event was originally curated by Kanani Daley to enhance community awareness for Hawai'i's pae māhū. Daley shares, "I don't believe there are hard facts or immutable edges to nature, to people, and dare I say, to culture. Duality and transformation, I think, are fundamental to evolution. Lāhui, and especially māhū, have the right to self determine their identities, to their own coordinates of belonging, and can define and create their culture, without colonial limitations."
Panelists:
Ka'imi Kahikina, PhD Student of Indigenous Political Science and Hula Practitioner
Kumu Hinaleimoana K. Wong; Hawaiian Cultural Leader
Ala Savio; Mahi'ai of Pilialoha Farms and Co-founder of Kū Anuenue
Lanakila Mangauil, Kumu Hula, ‘Ike Hawai’i, ED of HŌ’Ā, Mahi’ai, Kānaka ‘Oiwi Advocate, Kia’i Mauna
Mahalo to our Sharing Mana‘o sponsors for the 2024/25 Season: Cathi Keene, Mimi & Brian Kerley, and Caroline Landry & David Kirk
